14th Amendment
The 14th amendment granted citizenship to all people born or naturalized in the United States. It also forbids states from denying people life, freedom, and prosperity. It was ratified on July 9, 1868. This is an amendment from the Reconstruction era. It mainly defines a persons civil rights. Andrew Johnson was president at the time.
