Little Rock Nine
The Little Rock Nine was a group of four African American students that were enrolled at Little Rock Central High School. They were initially refused entry by the governor Orval Faubus, but president Eisenhower stepped in and let them attend. Angry crowds of white people crowded around the school in anger protesting. The students had to be escorted in the school so none of them would get hurt. They would often have to sneak out the back way of the school so none of them would get attacked. The Little Rock Nine was Minnijean Brown, Elizabeth Eckford, Ernest Green, Thelma Wair, Melba Beals, Carlotta LaNier, Terrence Roberts, Jefferson Thomas, and Gloria Ray. These were nine brave students that went to an all white school while being called names and being almost surrounded by angry crowds. Many of them were physically and verbally harassed, but they overcame it. This event inspired more African Americans to join white schools since they had become desegregated.
