Martin Luther King Jr.
Martin Luther King Jr. was the greatest influential speaker and leader of the civil rights movement. He led the March on Washington and many other campaigns. He was an African American clergyman and civil rights activist. King believed in non violent protests and learned this from Gandhi. He believed in peaceful boycotts and sit-ins. King was also apart of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. This was a civil rights activists group. He tried to push for integration and equal voting laws. He was arrested once for leading the Birmingham rally. He spent two weeks in jail. His letters were a manifesto of the African American revolution on civil rights.
Kings most famous speech was his "I Have a Dream " speech. He gave this speech on the March on Washington. About 200,000 - 300,000 people attended and heard his speech. His speech was 17 minutes long. People looked up to him as a strong leader and even a hero. He talked about in his speech racial equality and creating more jobs for African Americans. On April 4, 1968 he was assassinated. His assassination led to many race riots across the country. He was a great inspiration to many and everybody followed him.
